About the role

An exciting and challenging job opportunity has arisen within Gate 21, Haematology in patient ward. We are looking to recruit an experienced and self-motivated Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse to join our team. Gate 21 is an 18 bedded acute haematology ward, caring for patients with a variety of complex haematological conditions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse who is approachable, proactive and a dedicated leader with sound clinical skills. You will have significant relevant experience as a Band 5 or above. You will have a passion for delivering high quality patient care to support your colleagues.

The successful candidate will be a registered adult nurse with extensive post registration experience on a haematology ward. The successful candidate will be expected to use their expert clinical knowledge, alongside their leadership skills to provide high quality care to each and every one of our patients. You will be competent in administering chemotherapy and immunotherapy. You will also be expected to undertake further training to be competent in stem cell transplant and stem cell harvest.

The successful candidate will encourage effective communication to be maintained at all times and provide support to registered and unregistered nurses within the department

We are looking for an experienced registered nurse who acts as a positive role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice with an innovative and can do attitude.

Main duties

  • Take direct managerial responsibility for designated clinical areas, providing leadership and operational oversight.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of haematological diseases and treatments.
  • Act as a senior/charge nurse to lead, support, and develop a team of nurses within the department, promoting high standards of care and professional growth.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of chemotherapy, and immunotherapy including safe administration and monitoring. Deliver a broad range of advanced clinical skills in patient care, including: Chemotherapy administration Management of haematological emergencies, Care of patients with complex haematological conditions
  • Recognise and initiate early management of haemato-oncological emergencies, particularly neutropenic sepsis.
  • The successful candidate will encourage effective communication to be maintained at all times and provide support to registered and unregistered nurses within the department.
  • Provide and coordinate supportive care for patients undergoing intensive treatments, ensuring holistic, patient-centred care.
